February 04th 2010

Victoriaville, February 4, 2010 - The Fondation Hôtel-Dieu d'Arthabaska is happy to announce that it has raised over $903,000 in its 2009 fundraising campaign, thus largely exceeding the Foundation's initial objective of $525,000. This campaign, presided over by Mr. Alain Dumont, turns out to be the most profitable in the history of the Foundation, whose beginnings go back to 1980.

To this amount can also be added $75,650 raised through the endowment program, $504,680 from the large‑donation program and telephone solicitations,
as well as $145,339 from investment income, amounting to a total income of $1,628,746 in 2009. After expenses and the capitalization of the endowment fund, income exceeded expenses by $1,146,512.

With the campaign now drawing to an end, Mr. Alain Dumont, who first faced what seemed to be rather dim prospects given the hard economic times, says he is more than impressed by the generosity of the people in the region. "Thank you for supporting the Foundation by giving what you could. At the end of this exceptional campaign, we can see that illness does not go away in times of recession and that the population rallied around the cause and took action to respond to our appeal," emphasizes Mr. Dumont.

New Chairman for 2010

The Foundation also takes advantage of this opportunity to introduce its new Fundraising Campaign Chairman, Mr. Serge Bourgeois, who is General Director of the Caisse populaire Desjardins de Victoriaville. Very involved in his community, Mr. Bourgeois has been honorary chairman of several support and development organizations in his area and is very proud to be associated with the Foundation for its 30th year of existence.

Mr. Bourgeois feels very positive about his upcoming mandate and appeals to the population for continued support. "The results of the previous campaign show the extent to which the Bois‑Francs and Érable population is generous and concerned with the quality of health care in the region. It is now my turn to ask you to make a difference for those who go to the Hôtel-Dieu d'Arthabaska for chemotherapy, the young children who are hospitalized in the Pediatric Department, the hundreds of couples who attend the Family Birthing Centre to bring a new child into the world, and all those who need an operation. I'm asking you to be generous because even if you haven't had any health problems to date, I'm sure you all know someone who is dear to you and has had to have a stay in the hospital."

The Foundation Celebrates its 30th Anniversary

Since it was created in 1980, the Fondation Hôtel-Dieu d'Arthabaska has raised a total of 18.4 million dollars (not counting investment income), $15.9 million of which came directly from public and private fundraising campaigns and $2.5 million of which were derived from testamentary bequests.

By December 31, 2009, the Foundation had turned over a total of $11.6 million to the CSSSAE, Hôtel‑Dieu d'Arthabaska for the purchase of medical equipment and the hospital's palliative care unit.

On that same date, the assets of the Foundation totaled close to $5.9 million, in addition to the $1.5 million in endowment funds. Since 2002, 197 endowment funds were created with total commitments of $1,628,995 and 23 people have taken out life insurance policies in favour of the Foundation worth a total of $467,500.

On the picture, Serge Bourgeois mentions that he's expecting from Alain Dumont to share, in the envelop, the "tricks" to draw as much money as possible for the Fondation.
