SMITH: Stephen Arthur "Smiffy"
Suddenly on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at his home. Steve beloved son of the late Nellie and Alfred Smith. Loved brother of Peter (the late Brenda), Norman (Jean) and Wendy Bunyan (John) all of England. Lovingly remembered by nieces and nephews. Cherished friend of Jody Davidson, close friends and mates at the Queen's Head Pub in Oakville. He will be sadly missed by his colleagues at the Victoriaville Group.
Steve was a vital part of the Victoriaville team and managed a great number of funeral homes throughout the province for the past fourteen years. His sudden death has obviously left a huge void in the industry. We will all miss his expertise as well as his commitment to funeral service in Ontario.
Steve was born and raised in London, England, a true Cockney, and started his sales career with Heineken Breweries followed by a position with Pernod-Ricard (France) as National Promotions Manager where he handled assignments in Southern U.K., West Africa and Northern Ireland. He then joined the Grand Met Group of companies and was subsequently hired as Molson Canada's U.K. Sales Manager working with their distribution network. He came to Canada to take up the position of Assistant to the Vice-President of Sales for Molson, Ontario. He joined the Victoriaville Group of Companies in 1997 servicing funeral homes located primarily in South-Western Ontario.
"Smiffy" was a character who lived his life according to his own chosen path. He was passionate about golf, Premiership League Football, his beloved West Ham United FC, his mates and his English heritage.
Like many "Brits", Steve greatly admired and loved the late Sir Winston Churchill and his many quotes. None more fitting than the following:
"I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the ordeal of meeting me is another matter." - Winston Churchill
Goodbye Steve, you will be missed but never forgotten.
