Butternut
Butternut is the lightest colored member of the Walnut family and is more valued for its nuts than for lumber. Butternut is also called White Walnut because of its golden brown color, and is found mainly in New England and New Brunswick. The soft coarse-grained wood works, stains and finishes well. Small amounts are used for cabinetwork, furniture and caskets.
Butternut's grain variation makes it one of the most aesthetically pleasing woods. Its warm color shows off the natural beauty of the wood and distinguishes it from other species.
